As predicted, we had great weather at the range for the match. So, no excuses... We all had a good time, but as I mentioned to Bob during one of our treks to score targets, "It is more fun when you win." I suppose he took that to heart as he posted a pretty nice score for his bench match. He missed getting that 100 patch by one point, but I suspect he will get it soon. We haven't handed out one of those in a long time. Congratulations to Bob and Ken for posting the best scores today. Click here to see all results.
The bench shooters decided to mix it up a little and on the second match they shot a rapid fire string for the second stage. As with almost all of our matches, it is a shooter's idea that improves our match program. Next month we'll get a consensus on the idea and probably implement the change going forward. Feel free to reply to this message with any comments you may have on the idea.

Well, spring has sprung. At least it did for the match. Weather was great. We had four regular position shooters, one regular bench shooter and one 300 yd bench shooter today. It worked well enough although we are still getting a routine established. Tim Fitzpatrick set up and tested his M1903A4 with new shooting bags for the 300 yd bench match. The combination shows a lot of potential but, he was in testing mode so his score isn't posted. James shot the bench version of our vintage military double header while the rest of us were out on the ground. Click here for all of the scores.

The 3-Gun match will be including range #2 in their program for the 4th Saturday in April.

We certainly had the appropriate weather for this year's Winter War match. Even with the temperature around 20 it was a nice day to shoot if you had your layers on. We had 4 hardy souls out in the sub-zero weather to shoot. James posted the best scores both times. Click here for all of the scores. We used the splatter targets over our 200 yd targets and it made the shots much easier to spot. We should have done this years ago... In spite of the below freezing start today, we had a good turnout and inaugurated our first Vintage Military Bench match. It went pretty well, but I need to pick up the pace a little more as grumblings were heard regarding a late lunch. Click here for the bench match information. I have our 2025 schedule posted now, the only difference being the CMP M1 Carbine Match I have put on the schedule for August. It is a 100yd all M1 Carbine match. I'll post details as soon as I get them put together.

With our unofficial Swiss Rifle match we finish our 17th year of vintage military rifle matches at CCRPC. It really doesn't seem to have been that long. Mostly because of the great bunch of guys in our club who always make the matches easy to run. We have a couple of regulars I want to thank specifically; many thanks to Jim Popp and Jay Ferguson who have been with me since the start. These guys are nearly always there to help with running the match as well as providing input on every other aspect of holding these matches.

We will be posting our 2025 match schedule soon. The January match will be one of our regular vintage military double headers, but the remainder of the schedule is still being decided.

We had fun with the Swiss match and about half of us met the Swiss requirement in the Obligatorisch for our age group. Click here for the results. Since we are unofficial we allow any of our vintage military rifles to be fired. In the official matches the Swiss can shoot Sturmgewehr 57 and 90 which are modern select fire as well as their older rifles such as the Model 96/11, K11, K31. There may be others but since I can't read the official documents, that's all I can offer.

A great fall day for shooting. We only get a few of these each year, so it was really nice. We had six bronze awards and one silver. Tim fired a 281-11X and a 282-7X, both impressive scores. But, those are bronze award levels in the Modern-Military Unlimited class, it is a tough one. Click here for all awards and scores.

In November, we'll be shooting our WWI memorial match to mark the end of that war. This is a fun match with bolt action rifles and a different target than we are used to. Click here for the info.

After the match today, Jim, Jay , and I shot the 300 yard bench match target to see how it would be. Shooting from the bench, even in today's heat wasn't bad at all. We're evaluating the idea of adding this to our matches and will keep you informed.
