December Match Report

The unofficial Swiss rifle match closes out our 2018 match schedule for vintage military rifle.  It was a great day for shooting.  There were a few hiccups with some of us, but all in all it beat elbowing our way through crowds at some shopping center.  Congratulations to Jim for putting up the best scores for both matches.   Click here for all of the scores.  The Swiss citizens qualify annually to maintain their readiness.  Non-Swiss citizens can also shoot in the official matches for Swiss Shooting medals.  Click here for details (be prepared to translate...)

Thanks to everyone who participated in our matches in 2018.  I especially want to thank my fellow members who are always on hand to pitch in and make these matches run so well.  Jim Popp and Jay Ferguson are there at every match helping out.  Some other members while not available at every match are always ready to help.  Thanks Dick King, Tom Powell, Tim Fitzpatrick and others.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas, a safe and Happy New Year, and will be ready to shoot again next year.

November Match Report

The weather was not cooperating with us on Saturday and we collectively decided to cancel the match.  But, several of us still wanted to shoot the WWI match and we did so unofficially on Sunday afternoon.  Click here for the scores

Be sure to plan for the December match.  We will be shooting the unofficial Swiss Rifle prone match at 300 yds.  Click here for the details.  Swiss rifles are encouraged but regular vintage rifles are OK too.

October Match Report

This was our second CMP Match for the year.  While the range was quite soggy, we did not have any rain to endure.  Congratulations to Jim and Tim who shot well today.  The report is 3 pages.  Scroll to page 3 for the CMP awards.  Click here for all scores and awards.

Next month we will be shooting a WWI remembrance match to remember and honor those brave souls who fought in that bloody war which ended with the allied victory in November 1918.  WWI era rifles are encouraged but not required.  Any rifle allowed in our regular matches is fine.  Click here for info.

Thanks to everyone who came out to shoot today for helping with the match chores.  We hope to see you all again next month.

September Match Report

Today's match was cancelled.  Hurricane Florence had her way with the range and club members are working hard to put it back in shape.

August Match Report

Today was a great match.  Weather was about perfect.  This 2-Gun match is a very easy going match and a lot of fun.  I was shooting pretty well today and took both matches.  Click here for the scores

Next month will be a regular vintage military double header but, check the schedule for November.  Thanks to Tom Powell for presenting the idea of making it a WWI match to remember the 100 year anniversary of the end of the war.  We'll move our Swiss Rifle match to December.  Click here for more info.

Thanks to everyone who came out to shoot today.  We missed a few regulars...  Hope you'll make it out next month.

July Match Report

This was our annual vintage military 3-Gun match.  Jim Popp out shot us all by a good margin this year.  We all had fun though shooting this match.  Shooting 3 different guns at 4 different distances is a bit of a challenge.  Click here for the scores.  Next month will be our vintage military 2-Gun match.  Once again we will shoot under the covered firing line.  Make plans to come out and shoot this one.  It is a lot of fun and a lot less walking in the heat... Click here for match details.

Thanks to everyone who participated and to fellow club members Jim and Tom for helping with the match director duties.

June Match Report

Cloudy, sunny, breezy or still, we had a little of everything for this match.  Nevertheless, we had a couple of good matches.  Congratulations to Tom and Dick Bailey for posting new personal high scores for the standing stage.  I managed to conquer my rapid fire woes with the M1, but don't really know what I did to accomplish it.  Click here for all scores.  Next month we'll have our annual Vintage 3-gun match.  We'll shoot from shaded firing points on range 1 and have shorter walks to the targets.  Click here for details.

Welcome Don who shot with us today.  We hope you had a good time and will be back.

Thanks to everyone for braving the summer heat to shoot the match and for all your help with the match chores.

May Match Report

It was a little warm on this beautiful Memorial Day weekend match.  We hope wherever you may be on this weekend you'll stop to remember the brave souls who fought and died to preserve the freedom we all enjoy.  Many of the rifles we shoot were used by those very same souls.  Every time I clean or shoot or just pick up one of these vintage military rifles, I am aware of the part they played in our country's history.  Congratulations to Eric and to myself for putting up the best scores today.  Click here for the scores.

April CMP Match Report

It was a beautiful spring day for a match.  This was our warm-up match for shooting at the CMP Eastern games next week.  We had eight shooters today.  Some of you need to get your gear together and come out.  You're missing out on some great shooting.  Congratulations to Tom and Fran who shot the high scores today.  Click here for all the scores and CMP awards

Welcome to Chris who shot with us for the first time today.  We hope to see you a lot more.

Thanks to everyone for pitching in with the match chores, you make these matches almost run themselves.

March Match Report

Spring is just around the corner.  Soon we'll be wanting these cool match days back.  It was a great day.  Only a slight breeze and cool enough to keep from overheating in shooting jackets.  This should have been our WWI remembrance match.  But, I was so busy at work I didn't get a message out.  We had mostly M1 Garands today, and just like last month Jim and Jay put up the best scores.  I'm pretty sure they've been practicing a lot lately...  Click here to see the scores.

This year's CMP Matches coming up!!  Next Saturday will be our first CMP Rimfire Sporter match (click here for the info) and next month will be our first CMP match for vintage military rifles.  Click here for more info.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to shoot and help with the match.  We hope you'll put us on your 2018 calendar...

February Match Report

What a great day for a match.  I can hardly believe we had this great weather in February.  Light breeze, T-Shirt weather.  As we start thinking about the CMP Eastern games, some of us are bearing down a little more than usual.  Still having fun though.  Jim and Jay had the most fun today.  Click here to see the scores.

Thanks to everyone who came out to shoot and help with the match.  See you all next month.

January Match Report

The 2018 schedule for vintage military matches is officially underway.  It was a really great day for a January match.  It started off just a little chilly but the sun was up and so were spirits.  I for one was glad to be out of the house enjoying the fresh air.  A few guys had issues today which is relected in the scores.  Congratulations to Dick Bailey and myself for shooting the top scores.  Click here for today's results.

Welcome back to Lin, Jose, and Jake who we haven't seen for awhile and welcome to Connor.  We hope you guys will come back and shoot with us again.

Thanks to everyone for pitching in and making the match go smoothly.  See you all in February.

November/December Match Reports

Sorry for the late update on the November match.  It was a real challenge shooting 300 yds at unfamiliar targets.  But, we still had fun even if we probably wouldn't meet the Swiss marksmanship requirements.  Click here for the scores.

Today we had a great day for a winter match.  It was up in the mid-seventies.  We had a great turnout for this Christmas eve-eve match too.  Click here for the match scores.  There was one more shooter but as he was shooting out of competition, we didn't include his scores.  Scott brought a scoped Krag.  While it wasn't an original Krag sniper rifle, we did learn that they did make some.

Thanks to everyone for shooting in our matches this year.  Thanks especially to my fellow club members who faithfully help with running the matches.  Jim, Jay and Dick are always willing to help out and make our matches run smoothly.  Thanks Guys.

October CMP GSM/Carbine Match Report

No Gold today.  Even though it was a great day for a match, we seemed to be off our game.  That doesn't mean we didn't have fun shooting, just that we didn't set any new personal bests.  See below for the CMP award pins we gave.  Click Here for all the scores.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to shoot and especially for helping out with the match chores.

Check out the two rifles Dick brought out to shoot.
First match was an 1886 Lebel (click for info) and the second match a 1907/15 Berthier (click for info.)

September Match Report

These matches at the end of summer are the best.  We had a great day for shooting and pretty much filled up the grassy part of the firing line.  Most were shooting M1 Garands it seems, but Matt brought out his FG-42 (click to see more info) which is a challenge to shoot under match conditions.  Several shooters had other obligations and had to leave early so there were fewer shooters in the second match.  Congratulations to Marsh who soundly whipped us in both matches today.   Click Here for all of the scores.

Thanks to everyone for pitching in to help with the match chores.  Especially Jim, Jay, and Dick who acted as a second RSO.

Next month will be a CMP Club match.  Click Here for more details

But, before that, we are having a CMP Rimfire Sporter match this coming weekend Saturday 9/30/2017.  Click here for more information about the Rimfire Sporter matches.

August Match Report

The 2-Gun match was a lot of fun.  Weather was great and the turnout was great too.  Most guys were shooting M1 Carbines and 1911 pistols.  But, I fired an Enfield jungle carbine and Webley Mk IV revolver.  There was also an SKS and a Mosin M44, what a cannon that one is.  We had several shooters come and shoot with us for the first time.  We hope you guys had a good time and will join us again.  Jim and Dick swapped out the top two spots in the matches with myself and Marsh right on their heels.  Click here for all the scores.

Thanks to everyone for pitching in to help with the match chores.  Especially my fellow club members.  Our matches are a success because of your help.

July Match Report

The annual vintage military 3-gun is one of our most enjoyable matches.  Lots of fun without too much serious concentration required.  I managed to stay ahead of the pack today for both matches.    Click here for the scores.  Next month we'll shoot in the shade again for our vintage military 2-gun (carbine and pistol) match.  But, before that, don't forget to dig out your favorite .22 plinker and shoot the CMP Rimfire Sporter match this weekend.   You don't want to miss it...

June Match Report

It was a hot one today.  But, we had the fans out and everyone stayed hydrated so we made it through just fine.  Congratulations to Jim who put up the best scores in both matches today.  Click here for the scores.  Thanks to everyone who came out to brave the heat and help with the match chores.  I really appreciate my fellow club members who are out there pretty much every match making sure that everything gets done.

Remember, next month we will be shooting our annual vintage military 3-gun match... in the shade!  We will shoot the match twice, so bring enough ammo.  Click here for more details.

May Match Report

Little breeze and bright sun made it a good day for shooting if a little bit warm.  A great day for remembering those brave souls who carried these very rifles into harms way.  Bill and Jay swapped off putting up the top scores in today's matches.  Click here for all of the scores.

Thanks to everyone for pitching in and helping with the match chores.  We hope you'll all make plans to shoot with us in June.

April Match Report

This was one of those "No Excuses" days for shooting.  If you stayed home, you missed out.  This was our first CMP match in 2017 for GSM (Garand/Springfield/Military) and M1 Carbines.  We handed out some "bling" according to the 2017 CMP Cut Scores (See awards below.)  Click here for all the scores.(Scroll down for the carbine.)

Scott and Gary also brought out some Vintage Sniper Rifles to shoot.  They couldn't be official participants in the CMP match, but they shot along side of us, making some adjustments for rapid fire.  Scott fired a K98 with a 4X Weaver scope and an 03A4 with a 2.5 Weaver.  Gary shot a 1923 National Match Springfield 1903 with a Lyman 5A scope and an 03A4 with a Lyman Alaskan scope.  We are still working out details for shooting these rifles.

March Match Report

Our first WWI Anniversary match is a done deal.  Over half of our shooters fired rifles from the WWI era.  Thanks again to Tim Fitzpatrick who gave us the idea for the match.  Congratulations to Jay who won both matches.  Not shown are Scott's scores from his first run at a vintage sniper rifle match.  We will continue to work the details out for this fun addition to our matches.  Click here for today's scores.  Next month will be our first CMP match for 2017 in preparation for the 2017 Eastern CMP Games at Camp Butner.  A good chance to get in a practice match.  Hope to see you all in April...

Thanks to everyone for pitching in with all of the chores.  You all make my job easy.

February Match Report

What a great day for a match... in February!  We had a mostly M1 Garand match today.  Some issues with newly built rifles and a little game of "Hot Potato" using hot brass kept the day busy.  But, congratulations to Marsh and Jim for putting up the best scores.  Click here to see scores

Next month we are remembering the 100th anniversary of the US joining the fray in WWI.  The US officially entered the war in early April 1917.  Please check your collection and bring out a WWI era rifle.  It could be any US or foreign power military rifle, either the "good guys" or the "bad guys."  And, if you don't have such a rifle, it's OK, bring whatever vintage rifle you do have.  Thanks to Tim Fitzpatrick for thinking of this idea.

There is also some interest in shooting vintage sniper rifles at our matches.  In March, we will begin exploring the possibilities.  So, if you can't mange the iron sights any longer but have some really nice rifles with glass, bring one out and give it some range time.

January Match Report

2017 starts our 11th year of Vintage Military Rifle matches at CCRPC.  Another year of great shooting ahead of us!  The January match was a very good start for the year.  Some of us weren't thrilled with our scores, but it gives us plenty of room to improve.  Congratulations to Rick and Jay for putting up the top scores.  Click here for the results

Welcome Marsh, Rick, and Terry.  We hope you had a good time and will come back again.

Thanks to all for helping with the match chores.  I haven't mentioned it a lot recently, but you guys really are great to shoot with.

CMP Rimfire Sporter Report

The New Year's Eve Rimfire Sporter match wrapped up our 2016 match schedule.  It was a good year for our matches only having to cancel one match for weather.  The next CMP Rimfire Sporter match will be July 29, 2017.  Check the Vintage Military Calendar and Results page for next year's schedule.

We awarded 12 CMP pins at this CMP Rimfire Sporter match.  See below.
CMP cut scores are used to determine the award level.  Gold pins indicate the score was in the top 6.3% of national match competitors in the previous year.  Silver indicates top 20% and Bronze indicates top 40%.   Click here for all scores.

On behalf of our match director Jim Popp, we thank Bill, Jay and Dick for helping run the match.

Welcome to Sarah who shot with us for the first time at this match.  We hope you had fun and will come out to shoot again.

CMP Rimfire Sporter on Dec 31.

Falling on Christmas eve, our December vintage military match this year will be cancelled.  BUT!!!  We still have a CMP rimfire Sporter match left this year on Saturday Dec. 31.  Dig out a .22 plinker and come out to shoot that match.  Click here for match info.

We at Crosse Creek Rifle and Pistol Club thank all of you for participating in our matches this year and hope to see you in 2017.  Thanks to everyone who came out to shoot.  I also want to thank everyone for pitching in with the match chores.  I especially want to thank my fellow club members Jim, Jay, Tom, and Dick who are always willing to help out even on short notice.

November Match Report

Our second Swiss Rifle Match was a lot of fun.  Not as many shooters as the first one, so maybe the turkey hangovers were worse this year.  It was a great day weather-wise.  We only shot one match this year for the sake of time.  Next year we'll need to really keep this match moving to get in a double.  Congratulations to Dick who shot the best scores, good to have you back for a little while.  It was also good to see Jonathan again, back in the area for the holiday (and shot the second best score!)  Click here for the scores.

October Match Report

I apologize for the late posting of this information.  My life has gotten very busy and finding the time for my "hobbies" is getting tough.  Nevertheless, the scores for this match are posted.  Congratulations to Jim and Jay for putting up the best rifle scores and to Tom for the best carbine score.  Click here for the rifle scores and Click Here for the carbine scores.  This was a CMP recognized match and award pins were given to shooters based on the current CMP cut scores.

September Match Report

Well, it started off cool and foggy.  But, before the matches were over it was bright, sunny, hot and humid as ever.  Nevertheless, we had a good day for shooting.  Maybe our last hot one.  Congratulations to Jay who put up the best scores on both matches.  Click Here for the scores.

Remember, next month we will be shooting our fall CMP match on the 4th Saturday and a CMP Rimfire sporter match on the 5th Saturday.  Plan to come out and shoot with us.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to shoot today and thanks as always for helping out with the match chores.  You guys are the best!

August Match Report

Our first vintage Military 2-Gun match is a done deal.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the challenges of shooting the short range firearms.  We'll probably plan this match for the hotter months from now on.  I won both matches today, but that could change with a single pull of a trigger.  The scores were respectable, including Jim's 100-6X.  Click here for the results.

I know I don't say it enough, but I really appreciate the positive attitude everyone brings to these matches.  It is really a lot of fun for us all.  Without everyone pitching in, it could quickly become a chore for me.  I especially want to thank my compadres, Jim and Jay who are always there to help no matter the need.  Hope to see you all in September.

August Match Notice

We will be firing our first Vintage Military 2-Gun match this month.  Please come out and help us break it in.  Click Here for match details.

July Match Reports

Two hot ones this month.  We fired them both on range #1 in the shade with fans and plenty of cool water though, so it was tolerable.  Click here for the 3-Gun Scores and Click Here for the CMP Rimfire Sporter scores.  Both matches were double headers so we got plenty of trigger time.

Thanks to Jim and Jay for helping with both matches.  Jim is now the CMP Rimfire Sporter match director and today was definitely the best run match we've had.

We're planning a vintage 2-gun match (carbine and pistol) for August, again in the shade.  I will be seeking club approval to use range #1 again in August.  I'll send out details once it is final.

June Match Report

Was it the heat or the humidity?  What difference does it make.  Only the young and strong weren't affected today.  But, as Fran said, hanging out  and shooting with good people is always a good day.  Congratulations to Abraham (young and strong!!!) for putting up the best scores today.  Click Here for the scores

Welcome to Joe, who shot with us today.  Hope you'll come out again.

Next month is our annual Vintage Military 3-gun match.  We are planning to make it a double header this year so bring enough ammo to shoot the course of fire twice.  We shoot this match in the shade on range #1 at mostly short distances so if its hot, it doesn't matter too much.  Click here for Vintage 3-Gun match information.

May Match Report

Ok, spring is over. It was pretty warm today. You can see it in some of the second match scores. Congratulations to Jay and Bill for shooting the top scores today. Click Here for the Scores. We let Tim shoot his AR so he could practice up for Talledega, but our 1954 rifle rule hasn't changed.

Welcome to Don who shot with us today and welcome back Hank. Hope you both make it out some more.

Thanks to Dick, Jim, Jay, and Hank for helping with the match and everyone else for pitching in as well.

April CMP Match Report

Spring is here.  It was a little cloudy with the sun peeking through once in awhile.  I guess you could say we had variable light conditions.  Let's see now, lights up sights up.  Ok, I'm ready, oops where'd the light go.  The scores suffered a bit but, there was no wind and the temperature was OK too.  We awarded 8 CMP pins, see below.  Click Here for the GSM scores.  Click Here for the Carbine score, only one today.

Thanks to everyone who came out to shoot and help with the match today.
Next weekend many of us will be at Camp Butner shooting in the CMP Eastern Games, wish us luck.

Click here to check out the type of rifle that Jonathan shot in the first match today.  And, he got off all 10 shots in the rapid fire stage...

February Match Report

Deja vu on the weather conditions.  This was probably our last sub-freezing start.  We are starting our prep for the Eastern CMP games, so we made the rapid fire stage position shooter's choice.  Congratulations to Jonathan who won his first match with his recently-acquired M1 Garand.  We all knew this day would come along.  Click here for the scores.

Thanks to all who braved the cold to come out and shoot and help out with the match today.

Welcome to Larry, who shot his first his competitive rifle match today.  We hope you'll bring your recently-acquired M1 Garand out again.

January CMP Rimfire Match Report

It started out cold, like 28 degrees cold.  But, as the day drew on and the sunshine kicked in, it became pretty nice.  We shot 2 matches today and had some pretty good scores posted.  Check out Jack's scores.  All X's or 10's through the first 4 targets in the re-entry match, talk about pressure...  Finished up with 597 out of 600.  But we all had fun and that is what these matches are about.  Click here for the scores (Re-entry scores on 2nd page.)

January Match Cancelled

Weather report is ugly, stay home and stay warm.

December Vintage Military Match Report

We put a lid on our 2015 match schedule today.  The weather cooperated, but just barely.  Unlike holiday weekend matches in the past we had a smaller than average turnout.  We had fun nonetheless.  We didn't break any records today.  Maybe we were all still hung over from too much celebrating. Click here for the scores.

Thanks to everyone who participated in 2015.  A special thanks to my fellow club members who share the match duties.  Jim, Jay, Dick, Tom and other random members that were handy.  I'm sure to miss someone, but you know who you are...Thanks Guys!

We will have 16 events next year, including our CMP Rimfire Sporter matches.  Please check your zeros and plan to come out!!
We are always open to suggestions to improve our match offerings, please email me with any ideas you have. VMShooters@ccrpc.net

November Swiss Rifle Match Report

This was definitely out of our comfort zone.  The 300 yd distance combined with the different targets was a challenge.  I think the biggest challenge (frustration for me) was not being able to scope your shots.  Anything in the black just disappeared.  You really had to trust your zero and execute each shot the best you could.  We ran two matches back to back, but it was a bit much.  We'll have to get some feedback from those who stuck it out whether it is a match that should be doubled up or not.  Click here for the scores.  Interestingly enough it was the Swiss rifles that did the best...Go figure.

Thanks to Jack and Jay for helping with the match duties, and to everyone for pitching in with the setup and takedown.
I know I may sound like a broken record, but I really appreciate how you guys help out.

Have a great Christmas holiday and we'll see you the day after with your new toys...

August Match Report

At last, a break from the heat!  There were a few complaints of random butterfly attacks, but otherwise a great day to be at the range.  A couple of shooters had some hitches today so their scores weren't too impressive.  But, since they were dusting off a few cobwebs from their rifles, they'll surely have better success next time.  Drew tested out his newly acquired Johnson (no surgery involved.)  These rare rifles once competed with the M1 Garand for use by our troops in WWII.

Congratulations to Ken and Jim for winning the matches today.  Click Here for the Scores.

Thanks to Jim, Dick, and Jay for helping run the match today and to all for pitching in to make the match fun for us all.

Our annual Vintage Military 3-Gun Match is always a lot of fun.  So much so, that we'll probably make it a double in the future.  It just seems a shame to have to clean 3 guns after firing only 40 shots.  I fired the best overall score, but others did better on certain stages.  CLICK Here for the scores.

Thanks to my fellow club members, Jim, Jay, and Tom who shared the match director duties on this one.
Hope to see you all in August.

June Match Report

Once again, we beat the weather, but just barely.  The first raindrops began to fall just as we packed everything up.  We had 10 shooters but with loose sights, scoring mishaps, and guys having to leave early, we only have 8 scores for each match.  Eric won the first match with a respectable 280-6X and I won the second with a 277-6X.  Click Here for all the scores.

Welcome to Justin, who made the trip down from Durham to shoot the match, we hope you'll come back again.

Thanks to everyone for helping with the setup and making the match run smoothly.

Next month is our annual Vintage Military 3-Gun Match, Click Here for details.

May CMP Rimfire Match Report

These matches will definitely sharpen your shooting skills.  With almost no recoil and little noise, it's a lot like dry-firing.  Except, unlike dry-firing, there is a permanent record that you can't deny as well as a little match pressure to make it interesting.  We had a good match.  Congratulations to Jack for winning the T Class and Jay for winning the O Class.  Click Here for the scores.

Welcome to Chris, Larry and Kelly who shot with us today, we hope you had fun and will come back soon.
Thanks to Jack, Jay, and Jim for helping with the match chores.

May Match Report

A great turnout today for this Memorial Day weekend.  Great weather, probably our last coolish match for awhile.
Congratulations to Ken and Mark for winning the matches today.  Click here for the scores.

Welcome to Ken, Dave, and John who shot with us for the first time today.  We hope you'll come back.

Thanks to everyone for helping with setup and takedown, especially my fellow club members, Jim, Jay, and Dick who are always willing to pitch in at a moment's notice to help out.

Don't forget, we are having a CMP Rimfire Sporter match next Saturday 5/30/15.  Click here for more information.

April Match Report

Our first CMP match this year was a little soggy.  The targets were anyway.  But, the pasters held and while we couldn't scope our shots very well, some good scores were posted.  Congratulations to Dick for winning both matches today.  Click Here for the scores.  We awarded CMP pins to the shooters below.

March Match Report

No excuses today.  As some of us are getting ready to shoot at the CMP Eastern games, we allowed any position for the rapid fire stages.  We also  added a second rapid fire stage for the M1 Carbine.  Congratulations to Jay for firing a 100-2X in the first match.  Scores are posted.  Click here for the VM Rifle scoresClick here for the M1 Carbine Scores

Welcome to David, Eric and Tim who joined us today for the first time.  Thanks to all for pitching in to make the matches run smoothly.

February Match Report

Another cold one, but we had a great turn out.  We lost one shooter due to a zeroing problem and a couple left early, but the rest of us soldiered on despite the below freezing temps when we started.  Actually, with proper clothes and a nice bright sky, I thought it was a great day for shooting.  However, some would disagree.  Eric and Jay put up some great scores to win the matches.  Click here for the scores.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to shoot and for helping with the match chores.

January Match Report

2015 started off with a bang, or was it a splash?  Actually it was a lot of both.  Seven hardy souls came out today to shoot despite the poor weather.  Even though the range was soggy, we weren't rained on until we were taking down the target frames at the end.  I thought I had won the second match until I discovered that my tenth shot on the 2nd match slow fire was not a double in the X-Ring, but was in fact a live round hiding in a fold of my shooting mat.  Got to learn to count better...  Congratulations to Mark and Jim for winning today.  Click Here for the scores.

Welcome to Carson who shot his first Vintage Military match with borrowed gear and no spotting scope.
We hope you caught the bug and will be back out again.

NO CMP Rimfire Sporter Match this month

We will not have a CMP Rimfire Sporter match this month.  Our next possible date will be May 30th.

December Match Report

Ho Ho Ho.  Santa covered the match fees today.  So, if you let a little chilly weather or too much holiday indulgence keep you home, you missed out.
Congratulations to Dick Bailey and Jay Ferguson for winning the matches today.
Dick shot a new personal high score.  Great way to end the year!  Click here for the scores.

Thanks to everyone who shot with us this year.  We hope you'll be back in 2015 for more fun !!
Thanks especially to my fellow club members who always help with the matches, Jim Popp, Jay Ferguson, and Dick King.  You guys make this job a pleasure.

November Rimfire Match Report

OK, this was a cold morning to start a match.  But, eight brave souls showed up, and we had a good match anyway.  Actually, by the time we started shooting, the temp was climbing and it wasn't so bad.  Click here for the scores. We haven't finalized the Rimfire Sporter schedule for 2015, but we will probably hold matches on the 5th Saturdays as we have been.  We'll publish the schedule as soon as we can.

November Match Report

We had a chilly start for a fall match, but it didn't take long to develop into a great day for shooting!  Several of us have been testing out the Greek HXP in 303 British.  It worked better for some of us than others.  Congratulations to Jeffrey and Jim for winning the matches.  Click here for the scores

Remember,  this Saturday 11/29/14, we will be shooting a CMP rimfire sporter match.  Click Here for more information.

September Match Report

What a great day for shooting!  If you stayed home, you missed a really nice day to shoot.
Jay shot a 100-2x in the rapid fire prone stage with his M1903A3.
Congratulations to Jay on the 100 and on winning the match.  Click Here for the scores.

Thanks to all who came out to shoot and for helping with the match setup and takedown.
Next month, October  25th, will be our second CMP Garand-Springfield-Military (GSM) for this year.  Click here for more information.

August CMP Rimfire Sporter Report

These matches are really fun.  You get all of the marksmanship aspects of a 3 position rifle match, without the recoil, noise, and high ammunition costs.  Even though we shoot at 25 and 50 yds, the targets are still challenging.  We had a good turnout for the match, but not too many CMP award pins which shows that it isn't a push-over match.  Click here for the scores.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to shoot as well as helping with the setup.
Thanks especially to my fellow club members who always pitch in, sometimes on very short notice, making this an easy match to put on.

Our next CMP rimfire match will be November 29th.  Hope to see you then.

August Match Report

We had a good turnout in spite of typical August weather.  An occasional light breeze was nice.  Congratulations to Jeffrey for winning his first match with us.  Scores are posted, Click here.  Rick's wife Christel joined him today and shot an M1 Carbine.  Scroll to the 2nd page of the scores to see how she did.

Thanks to fellow club members Jim, Jay, and Dick for helping with running the match, and as always thanks to everyone for pitching in.  See you next weekend for a CMP Rimfire match.  Click here for details.

July Match Report

Another Vintage Military 3-Gun Match in the bag.  It was a little hot, but this match runs pretty quickly and we have it under the shaded firing line on range #1, so it wasn't bad at all.  I won the match this time, almost saved some rounds on the rifle stage, but picked up my normal tortoise-like pace and got them all on paper.  Click here for the Scores.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to shoot today and for Jim, Jay, and Eric who assisted with the range officer duties.
Next month could be a hot one, but we'll have water and a couple of fans to keep everyone cool, so get your gear together and come out to shoot.

June Match Report

This was a great day for shooting.  We thought we might get wet but the rain held off and we had a nice cool day for a June match.  Once again we had a few glitches that kept a couple of shooters from finishing.  But, that's what these as-issued matches are like.  Not finely tuned high performance firearms, but battle weary and sometimes scarred old soldiers.  Jim and I won the matches today. Click here for the scores.

Thanks to everyone who braved the weather forecast and came out to shoot and thanks as always for pitching in to make the match easy to run.

Welcome to Brian who shot with us today for the first time.  We hope you'll be back.

July's match will be a Vintage Military 3-Gun Match.  Click here for details.

CMP Rimfire Sporter Report

The weather man was on our side this time so if you stayed home thinking it would rain again; you missed a great day for shooting.  9 shooters came out for the match today and we had a good assortment of bolt and pump-action rifles represented, but no semi-autos this time.  We got to meet a couple of new folks today and that is always a good thing.  Welcome to Stacy and Micaiah, we hope you'll make the trip again to shoot with us.

We were happy to award 1 bronze and 2 gold CMP pins today.  Click here for the scores.

Thanks to everyone for helping the match run smoothly.   Our next CMP Rimfire Sporter match will be August 30, 2014.  Hope to see you then.

May Match Report

We almost could have called this an M1 and Springfield match.  Actually there was a Mosin Nagant in there, but the score card got lost so I don't have the scores.  We had several shooters join us for the first time so there were a few wrinkles to work out and one M1 rear sight that broke down.  But, as always, everyone had a good time shooting.  Thanks to our regular shooters who pitched in and helped the new guys.  Click here for the scores

Thanks to everyone as usual for pitching in with the setup and takedown, your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Our next match will be a CMP Rimfire Sporter match this Saturday 5/31/2014. Registration starts at 0830. Click Here for more information.

CMP Rimfire Match Rained out.

We'll try to re-schedule this soon.

March Match Report

Another great day for shooting.  No built-in excuses today.  We're all looking forward to some fun times this year, so if you've been waiting to break out your "more experienced" rifles, now is the time.  Congratulations to Scott, who took both matches today.  Click here for the Scores.

Thanks to Jim for running the second match today and to everyone for pitching in as always to make our matches easy to run.

Finally, a match where the weather wasn't an issue.  It was a great day to be out shooting.  Congratulations to Ken and Jay who won the matches today.  Click here for the scores.

Thanks to everyone for helping make the match run smoothly.

Welcome to Jeffrey who joined us for the first time today.  Looking forward to seeing you more often.

January Match Report

It was 25 deg F when I got to the range this morning.  Most of us were layered up pretty heavily and that makes for some tough shooting.  It was 39 deg F by the time we finished and my feet were feeling normal again.  I think we scored more zeros today than ever before.  Nevertheless, our 2014 match schedule is officially underway.  Jim won the first match, and I got the second one.  Click here for the scores.

Thanks to everyone for coming out on such a cold day, and for pitching in with setup and takedown.

December Match Report

Frosty !  That was how it started out today.  But, by the time we got going, it warmed up pretty well.  No wind and clear bright skies made for a great day to finish out our 2013 matches.  Congratulations to Ken and Jay who won the matches today.  Click Here for scores.

Thanks to everyone for making this another great year for our vintage military rifle matches.  We hope you'll be back out next year.

Special thanks to Jim and Jay who help run every match all year long. I couldn't do it without you guys!

November CMP Rimfire Sporter Report

No wind and bright skies made for a good day to be at the range.  Definitely a good day for long johns though.  Had 11 shooters for this fun little match.  It takes as much or more skill than our regular matches but without the noise.  The high score for the O-Class was fired by Jim Popp.  Ed Shelley turned the high score for the T-Class.    Click Here for match scores

The awards are based on scores turned in to the CMP during last year's matches.
Gold is top 6.7%, Silver is top 20%, Bronze is top 40% of all shooters nationwide.

Thanks to Jim and Jay for helping with the match as always.

We hope to see you all in December, we'll be shooting another Vintage Military Double Header.

October CMP Match Report

Frosty!  That was the best description of the match conditions for today.  Shooting glasses and scope lenses were frosting over.  Your breath created a fog bank in front of you.  But, that all went away by the time we finished our sighting shots for the first match.  Once the sun cleared the trees we had a great day to shoot.  Click here for the rifle scoresClick here for the carbine scores.  This was a CMP double header and we awarded the following match pins according to the 2013 CMP Cut Scores:

September Match Report

What a beautiful day for a match.  12 Shooters came out to enjoy it.  Scott brought out his Martini-Henry and posted a good score in the first match.  Not bad for rapid fire with a single shot rifle.  Not good enough to take Mark and his M28 Finn though.  Congratulations to Mark who won both matches today.  Click Here for the Scores.

Welcome to Bill MacDonald, who got a taste of the Vintage Military Rifle bug today.  We hope you're hooked and will come back again.

Thanks to Jim and Jay for helping with the match as always.

We hope to see you all in October, we'll be shooting a CMP Double Header.  Click Here for more info.

CMP Rimfire Sporter Match Report

Thanks to all who came out to shoot in our CMP Rimfire Sporter Match.  It was the first time for us Vintage Rifle guys to hold one of our own.  We all had fun, some more than others as always.  You always have to be ready to have a laugh at your own goofs or it just isn't worth it.  The top score was turned in by Jack Kelley which earned him a gold CMP award pin.  Click here for the scores.  We had 10 shooters but one had to drop out and one got away with his score sheet before we had entered the scores.  We will do this again in November, hope to see you all then.

Thanks to Jay, Jack and Tom for helping with getting the range ready and with running the match.

August Match Report

Another great day for a match!  I could get used to these cooler temperatures.  We had 14 shooters for the match, although one left early with his score card, and another didn't shoot the second match.  I brought my trusty Smith Corona and won both matches.  That felt good, it's been awhile.  Check the scores here, you'll see I didn't have much elbow room, so I'd better get that offhand score fixed.

Welcome back to Scott, we hope you won't be such a stranger and welcome to Warren who shot with us for the first time.

Thanks to all for helping with setup and takedown.  Thanks to club members, Jay, Jim, and Dick and who pitch in and make my work easy.
Thanks to Bob Brown who lent a hand to help get a finicky M1 Garand working.

Special Bulletin:
CMP Rimfire Sporter Match

In addition to our regular monthly Vintage Military Rifle matches, we are hosting 2 additional CMP matches this year.  One on August 31 and one on November 30.  Not for vintage military rifles, but for .22 rimfire.  We shoot this match each year when we go to Camp Butner and really have a lot of fun.  So, we decided to bring the fun home for everyone else.  Click here for details.

July Match Report

Our annual Vintage Military 3-Gun Match was a lot of fun today.  Weather was great,  Jim took first place, I finished second, and Mark was third.  This match takes you out of the normal target shooting comfort zone a little.  With no sighter shots, less time, and a pistol!! It is a good changeup once in awhile.  Click Here for scores.
Next month we'll be back to our regular vintage military double header, so get your ammo loaded, hope to see you then.

Thanks to Jim, Jay and Jack for helping with the Match director chores today.

June Match Report

I thought we would get a soaking today, but not so.  The clouds drifted in and out until the sun broke through.  Good scores were posted.
Jack took the first match and I got the second one.  Click Here for scores.

Remember, Next month is Vintage Military 3-Gun.
We will shoot a full sized rifle, a carbine length rifle, and a vintage handgun.  Click Here for more details on the match.

Thanks to all for pitching in with setup and takedown.  Your help makes the match fun for everyone!!

May Match Report

Another great day for shooting.  The bolt guns took it all today.  Congratulations to Mark and Jay who won the matches.  Scores are posted, CLICK HERE.

Welcome to those who shot with us for the first time today.
Ed, Pete, Chris, and Eric we hope you had fun and will be back again soon.

Thanks everyone for coming to shoot and for helping out to make the match fun for everyone.

CMP Eastern Games Report

I have collected pictures from the CMP website and combined them into a zip file. Click Here to access.  (Warning, it's big so be patient.)

Seven of our regular vintage military rifle shooters attended the CMP Eastern Games at Camp Butner. Altogether, we picked up six gold, two silver, and six bronze CMP achievement medals. We had six shooters finish in the top ten of various matches. Click Here to open the CMP Eastern Games web page then click on the Results tab part way down the page.

Notable scores were:

Bill Bowling: As-Issued M1911 pistol, 354-5X, 1st place.
Jack Kelley: Modern Military Rifle, 285-8X, 2nd place, only 4 pts under the top score.
Jay Ferguson: Rimfire Sporter-Open sights class, 582-16X, 6th place but ... only 1 point and 3 X's under the top score.

April CMP Match Report

What a great day for shooting. While some of us may not have been real happy with our scores, no one could have been unhappy with the weather today. We had a great turnout even though not everyone could stay for both matches. If we had one more shooter in the first match, we'd have run out of numbers for the targets! For the second match in a row, we had a 100 fired. See my M1 slow-fire prone target below.

April Match Ammo Update

We have received some CMP surplus 30-06 ammo that will be available to shooters who will be shooting it in the match. Because of the difficulty of getting this ammo, we have to manage it closely. 80 rounds per shooter limit at the same price as before (50 cents per round.) The ammo is not in enbloc clips, but if you need clips for your M1, I have some extra to spare.

April Match Planning

We will shoot two official CMP matches, including Modern Military Rifles. Click here for details. Be sure to bring a notarized CMP affidavit with you if you have not given us one already. CMP award pins will be given according to the CMP Cut scores. Participation in these matches will meet one of the requirements for purchasing rifles from the CMP.

For a summary of the differences between CMP matches and our usual VMBAR/VMSAR matches, Click Here. NOTE 1: The CMP has released a new rulebook for CMP Games matches. I am working to make sure the information on this website is current. Please be patient as this may take some time. To be certain of the rules, check with the rulebook directly. Click Here for the Current CMP Games Rulebook. NOTE 2: We will NOT have ammo for sale at this match. We are obtaining more CMP surplus 30-06, but it will not be available at this match. NOTE 3: The CMP has not yet made the award pins for Modern Military. If you meet the Cut Score we will order the pins as soon as they are available and get it to you.

March Match Report

A little sprinkle of rain never hurt anybody, right? It certainly didn't hurt Tim or Jay today. Both shot good scores, with Tim winning the first match and Jay taking the second. See Jay's 200 yd slow fire prone target below. Click Here for the Scores. Next month we'll shoot a CMP double header, so be ready.

Thanks to everybody who braved the weather forecast.

Thanks for shooting and thanks for helping to setup and take down the targets.

Jay Ferguson 100-3X

February Match Cancelled

I hate to do it, but the weather forecast is looking pretty miserable, so we will not have a match.  With a 70-80% chance of rain, keeping the targets on the boards could be tough.  Hopefully the March match will be a better day.

January Match Report

Eight shooters braved the cold and ice to come out and shoot. Even with the two hour delay of start time, the temperature was still in the 30's. But the air was still and the light good; a great day for a match. We missed you guys that were iced in.

Congratulations to Jay who once again beat everyone ... twice!  Click here for the scores.

Thanks to everyone for helping out and making this match a lot of fun

December Match Report

It started off a bit chilly, but with a clear sky and a bright sun we warmed up enough to enjoy the day.
We were back to our usual Vintage Military Rifle Double Header.

Congratulations to Jay who won both matches today. Click Here for the scores.

Drew brought out an interesting rifle. A Winchester Model 1895 Russian.
Winchester 1895 Russian

It is likely one of 300,000 built by Winchester for the Russian Military between 1915-1917.
Unfortunately, Drew's was missing the receiver bridge for loading stripper clips.  Made rapid fire a little tough.

*** Thanks to Everyone who participated in our matches in 2012. ***

We hope you will be back next year.

November Match Report

It was a great day for a match. We had a really good turnout and had a great time. Altogether there were 17 different types of firearms fired today. Countries represented were the US, Russia, Finland, Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Yugoslavia, and maybe another couple I've missed. Scores are posted, Click Here. After the regular match we had a machine-gun shootout between Fritz (AKA Drew) firing a modified German MG42 and Joe (AKA Tom) firing a modified US M1919. Fritz won the shootout but all had a great time. Drew and Tom generously brought extra linked ammo so we could all try our hand. Thanks guys we really had a blast! Thanks to Jim, Jay, and Tom for sharing the Match Director's duties.

Welcome to Bill White and Kevin who shot with us the first time today.

We hope you had fun and will be back.

November Vintage Military 3-Gun Match

October Match Report

It was a bit windy for this match with Tropical Storm Sandy off in the Atlantic. But we just used more staples and had a great match anyway. The wind wasn't too much of an issue as it only gusted up every now and then. Congratulations to Mark for winning the first match. These 7.62x54R shooters are getting good! I brought my trusty Smith Corona and won the second match.

September Match Report

Coolness, at last!! These next few matches will be the very best weatherwise. Don't miss them. The sun was bright and played a few tricks on us today, but no one complained seriously. Congratulation to Steve who cleaned up today. Click Here for the scores.

Welcome Dick Bailey, we hope you will come back to shoot again.

Thanks to all for helping out, as usual.

August Match Report

What a great day for shooting. We got a break from the heat and the scores show it. The top three shooters in both matches were within 4 points.Congratulations to Brad and Steve for winning the matches. Click Here for the scores.

Welcome Alex and Jullian who came out to shoot with us for the first time today.

As always, thanks to everyone for pitching in and helping. Your help makes the matches fun for everyone.

July Match Report

It was another hot one !!! But, we had several fans to cool us off between stages and plenty of cold water. Our second match was a bit of a change. The big black target made it harder to find an aiming point. We were hitting the target easily enough for the battlefield, but finding the X-ring was tougher. Congratulations to Fran Willis who took the first match with his Springfield. Check the scores to see how close it was! I won the silhouette match with my 03A3.  Click here for the scores.

Thanks to Jim Popp for running the match today.

Gewehr 43
Here is a picture of a Gewehr 43 like the one Jim fired in the second match.

Welcome to Rick Ford who shot with us today. We hope you'll come out again.
Thanks to everyone for coming out and helping with the setup and takedown.

July Match Planning

The June match was a hot one so I have bought a couple more fans to help keep us cool.

Be sure to bring something to keep yourself hydrated.

B27 Target Picture

A little change up for our July Vintage Military Rifle match.

The target for the second match will be a B-27 full-size torso silhouette.

Jim Popp is donating a CMP hard rifle case for the match winner.

This is a very sturdy rifle case and sells for $30 plus shipping.

Click here for details if you haven't seen these cases.

June Match Report

It was a hot one !!! Our first really hot match this year. We had 12 come out to shoot today and had some decent scores turned in. Congratulations to Jack Kelley who took the first match with his K31. I won the second with my 03A3 but only by X count.

Thanks to everyone for coming out and helping with the setup and takedown.

April - May Match Reports

I apologize for taking so long. This is a really busy time of year.
I have posted the scores for both the April CMP Rifle and Carbine matches and the May VM Double Header.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to support the matches and for helping run them.

March Match Report

After reviewing the weather forecast, I was prepared for a low turnout. But, even though it was raining when we began registration, the shooters just kept coming. The rain got to the targets, but we kept on and got our rounds off. Click Here for scores. I took both matches. Unfortunately, due to the rain and the likelihood of being rained out, we called it a practice match so, no prize... :-(

Welcome to Todd Sellers, who shot with us the first time today.. Come back soon!

Thanks to everyone for coming out on a rainy day and for helping with setup and takedown of the targets.

Improve your Standing Scores

Some time ago I wrote a booklet on dryfire practice for standing position. As you all know, I'm no expert. Nevertheless, I've been improving and I wanted to share my experience. Click this link for the booklet. I hope it helps. If it doesn't I'll triple your money back. :)

February Match Report

I missed out on this match, but understand that it was a good one even if the windchill did get a little harsh toward the end. Thanks to Jim for stepping in on very short notice to run the match. Congratulations to Jay for taking top honors both matches. From the looks of the scores though, he just squeaked by on the second match. Click here for Scores.

Welcome to new shooter Joseph J. Fescina, we hope you'll bring your uncle back out next time.

January Match Report

2012 is off to a great start with 18 registered shooters in our first match of the year. The weather was just about perfect. Cool enough to put on the coffee pot in the morning but warm enough to leave the long johns at home.

Jay and I re-worked the target frames and had them looking good.
Thanks to Bob Brown who built us some new benches for pasting the high shots. Congratulations to Scott who showed us all up once again. Click Here for the scores.  (One shooter did not turn in a score card, and one left early.)

Welcome to Troy, Jason, and Matt who came out to shoot with us today.

As always, thanks to everyone for helping out. Your participation keeps it fun for everyone.

Interesting Information on the M1 Garand

Here are links to download a couple of files I recently found that I thought might be of interest to M1 Garand shooters. Both are very old, but have good solid information. After opening, please save them to your computer for reference. The first file is fairly small but the second is big, so be prepared to wait if you have a slow connection. I found both of these online and hope that they are public domain. If I find out differently, I'll have to take them off.

American Rifleman article on reloading for the M1 Garand. March 1986 (~4.5 MB).
"How to Shoot the US Army Rifle" "The Infantry Journal" First Edition, 1943 (~40 MB)

December Match Report

The weather was most agreeable even if a little gusty now and again. We had a good turnout as it seems to happen often near the holidays. I'm glad so many of you chose to spend some of your downtime with us. Jay and Scott took the top spot in the matches this month, congratulations to you both. Click Here for Scores.

Welcome to Stephen, Jack, Ken, and Mark who joined us for the matches.
We hope you'll make it a regular thing.

Thanks to all for pitching in not only this match, but all year long.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR

November 3-Gun Match Report

September Match Report

We got off to a damp start, but soon enough the rain passed over and we had a great day to shoot. Nice and cool was a welcome change from the summer heat. Eleven shooters came out to the range and we all had a great time. Congratulations to Scott and Jay for winning the matches. Scores are posted, Click Here.

Welcome to John Babiarz who shot with us for the first time.
We all hope you had a good time and will come back.
Thanks to everyone for helping out with setup and takedown.

August Match Cancelled due to weather !!!

It looks like we're in for some wind and rain at the least.
Everyone stay home and protect your families and property. We'll see you next month.

July Match Report

It was hot !!!  But, with plenty of water, a few fans, and the shade of the covered shooting positions, we beat the heat. Apparently, the heat has a positive effect on some folks. Congratulations to Fran and Jay, our match winners today. Fran set a new high score for our matches in the standing position. Fran's standing score of 94-1X is likely to stand for quite awhile. Click here for Scores.

Bill fired an Arisaka Type 99 short rifle. The Type 99 was a WWII Japanese rifle. This particular one was probably mid-war production. It still has the adjustable rear sight, but otherwise resembles the "last-ditch" versions. Click the picture for more info..

Arisaka Type 99
Thanks to everyone for pitching in at this particularly hot match.

This match was a lot of fun. We stepped outside of our usual box and changed up the matches a bit. The first match was business as usual. But, on the second match we used a B27 Full sized torso silhouette target. The all black B27 was quite a challenge and the scores reflect it. Click here for the scores. After the second match we had an optional "Mad Minute" match. We divided shooters into two categories, bolt-action and semi-autos. Then, with magazines loaded, we had sixty seconds to put as many aimed shots down range at the B27s as we could from the prone position. Rounds fired count ranged from 9 to 52. The bolt-action high scorer was Scott McMillan who scored a 99 with 13 rounds fired from his M1903A3. The semi-auto high score was fired by two shooters. Jim Popp and Tom Powell each scored an identical 206-2X. But, Jim fired 52 rounds from his M1 Carbine, while Tom fired 24 rounds from his M1 Garand.

Welcome to Lee, Brad, and Drew who shot with us for the first time today.
We hope you won't be disappointed if we go back to our usual double header match next month.

Thanks to everyone for helping out. Thanks to Jim for the B27 idea and to Scott for the "Mad Minute" idea.

May Match Report

They say if you don't like the weather, wait a minute... We had to do a bit of waiting as rain hit us at the end of the first match. It passed quickly though and after a fresh target was posted, we fired match #2. We had 12 shooters altogether, even though several had to leave before the second match. Congratulations to Scott for winning both matches. Click Here for scores.

Welcome To Bob and Mike shooting with us for the first time today. And welcome back to Bobby.
We hope you guys had a great time and will come back often.

Thanks as always to everyone for helping out, making the match run smoothly.

A great day for shooting. Even though most of us set up under cover in case of rain, the wet stuff held off until the match was over. Congratulations to Scott who won both matches today. Scores are posted, CLICK Here.

Welcome to Charles Futrell who drove down to shoot with us for the first time today.

Thanks everyone for helping out. You guys are great. I never think twice about getting things done.

February Match Report

If you stayed home, you missed a good chance to shoot. A little windy for a minute here or there, but otherwise, nice weather. We had nine shooters today. Two shooters, Tim and Paul, tried out the bench option. It worked well. We may adjust the third stage of bench to a sitting upright position, comments welcome. Scores are posted click here. Congratulations to Bill and Jay, the match winners of the day.

Thanks to everyone for helping with the match chores..

January Match Report

OK, we're off to a whole new year of good shooting. 8 brave souls put on their long-johns and shot today. Our new coffee pot was certainly put to good use. Thanks to the anonymous donor, whoever you are. Congratulations to Jim Popp who won the first match and to Scott for winning the second. Scores are posted. We did not have any bench shooters today, but Joe Kester came out to test our bench setup. We have two benches that are extra tall and do not have fixed seats. Joe likes the setup and will be getting his gear together.

Thanks everyone for the extra help as I was somewhat limited with a bum wing.

January Match Planning

We will shoot a Vintage Military Rifle Double Header. We will also begin adding a bench-rest match for shooters who have difficulty shooting from standard positions. Click Here for the bench-rest info.We also have a new coffee pot. Thanks to an anonymous donation, we have purchased a coffee pot and water coolers. I have coffee, powdered creamer, and sugar. Anything else you want, bring your own.

November Match Report

Well, that's a wrap for 2010! No match in December due to our Saturday being Christmas day. 2010 was a good year for our Vintage matches. Today we fired our usual Vintage Military Double Header. Great weather, and good shooting. Congratulations to Tom Powell for setting a new high target score for our matches. Tom fired a 100-8X rapid fire sitting. Scott McMillan shot the high match scores in both matches (although he only squeaked past by one X in match #1.) Good shooting Scott. Scores are posted Click Here. Thanks to everyone who has supported the matches this year by participating and by pitching in with all of the match chores.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year...We'll see you in January.

September Match Report

OK everyone, the cool fall days are just ahead. The September match started at a cool 68 degrees, but found its way up to the low 90's by the end. The sky was bright and the wind was light. A great day for shooting. Scott edged out Randall (Welcome back) in the first match by 3 points. And I got the second match with an easy 10 point margin. Click Here for Scores.

Thanks everyone for helping out...

August Match Report

It was another hot one. 11 shooters made the matches. Our friends from out east took both matches today. Congratulations to Scott and David. Scores are posted click here. Welcome to Tom Buhls who fired the matches with us today. Hope you had a good time and will come back next month.

Looking forward to those cool fall matches!!!

Thanks to everyone for pitching in and making the match run smooth.

July Match Report

Another scorcher. 8 brave souls showed up and fired the match. Hydration was the key to shooting well today. Scott won the first match with a very respectable 282-7X and I squeaked out the second one with the Swede. Click Here for Scores. Jim brought another interesting rifle to shoot today. Pictured below is a 1905 Ross straight pull Canadian rifle similar to Jims. It is a WWI rifle chambered in .303. Only 420,000 were made.

Thanks everyone for helping run the match.

June Match Report

It's not the heat, it's the humidity. No, it was both!!! We were definitely huddling around the fans today. In spite of the heat though, we had a good day for a match. Both Scott and David fired single shot rifles and put up some good scores. Scores are posted. Click here.
We got video of Scott shooting a single shot rifle in the first match. Click here to see the video.

Thanks everyone for pitching in with the setup and takedown. Hope to see you all next month.

May Match Report

All but one of us set up under the cover and started watching the sky, but all it did was get brighter. It turned out to be a great day for shooting. If you stayed home you missed out. Congratulations to Scott for winning the first match. Don and David shot the same score in the second match except for X's. But, Don's M1 wasn't "as issued" and he declined the honors making David the second match winner. Scores are posted. Click Here

Thanks to everyone for helping with setup, takedown, scoring, etc.
Hope to see you in June! We should have new pasters by then.

February Match Report

We had another great day for a match. Weather was bright and sunny and not too cold. You have really been missing out if you stayed home. Almost perfect conditions. Congratulations to Scott on winning the first match with an M1. I had a great day with my M1 and took the second match. We had several new shooters with us today. Welcome to all, I hope you'll come back to shoot with us again.

As always thanks to everyone for pitching in with setup and takedown.

Thanks to Jim Popp who was the Match Director for the day's matches. Scores are posted. Click here.

The club has purchased CMP 30-06 ammo for use in the VM matches. It is Greek HXP and is packed in 8 round enbloc clips. The price is still the same. $7.50 per 20 rounds, or more conveniently, $3.00 per clip. Limit 80 rounds per match.

December Match Report

That's a wrap for 2009. We had over a hundred match entries this year, met some new folks, and had a lot of fun making noise with some fine old rifles. I'm looking forward to doing it all again in 2010. Hopefully, our ammo will hold out and reloading supplies will come back to the shelves. For the December match, our friends from out East put the hurt on us pretty good. Congratulations to Dave and Scott each winning one of the matches. Click here for the scores.

Welcome to Larry and Tim, both CCRPC members shooting with us for the first time.

Although I may sound like a broken record, I really do appreciate the help everyone gives in setting up, taking down, and scoring. Thanks to Jay for keeping the range in such fine shape. Thanks to Jim for taking over when I can't make it. You guys really make running these matches a pleasure.

December Match Planning

This will be the Saturday right after Christmas so you're forgiven in advance if you can't make it. Those of you who can, we will fire our usual Vintage Military Double Header. So, bring out your new toys and lets see how they do. Hope to see you there.

November Match Report

We had a great turnout for the match. I never know for sure what to do during the holidays. We had a bright and sunny, if somewhat cool day. It warmed up nicely though and was a good day for a match. Scott won in the first match with a comfortable lead and I edged out David in the second match. I might add that I had to shoot under slight duress with scattered comments about the pinkness of shooting a carbine.

Joining us for the first time this month were Hank, Don, and John. Welcome to you all, I hope you had a good time and will come out and shoot with us again.
Thanks to everyone for setting up and taking down target frames, etc. Thanks to Miles McMillan for constructing a first-class target backer setup. Miles put together a tarpaper holder so we can easily slice off pieces as needed to block off target backlighting.

November Match Planning

This will be the Saturday right after Thanksgiving so you're forgiven in advance if you can't make it. For those who can make it, and can still walk, we will fire our usual Vintage Military Double Header. Hope to see you there. I have CMP surplus 30-06 (Greek HXP) available to those needing 30-06 for the matches. The cost is now $7.50 per 20 rounds limit 80 rounds per shooter. The ammo is in 8 round M1 enbloc clips packed in bandoleers. I apologize for the increase, I am still making no profit. We may not see this ammo again so I'm trying to make it stretch as long as possible.

October CMP Match Report

We had a great day for the CMP matches. No distracting weather or other excuses, it was just us and the targets. Congratulations to Scott who posted the high score in both matches. Scott shot a 280-4X in the first match with an M1903A3 to win a gold Springfield CMP Pin. In the second match he shot a 275-4X with an M1 Garand to win a silver M1 Garand CMP pin. Others receiving pins were: Fran Willis, Vintage Military-Silver; Bill Bowling, M1 Garand-Bronze; Jay Ferguson, Springfield-Bronze, Jim Popp, Vintage Military-bronze.

Click here for the CMP non-carbine scores, and Click here for the Carbine Match scores.

We had 3 M1 Carbine shooters this match, although none earned CMP pins this time.

Click here to learn more about Jim's French MAS-36.

October Match Planning

We will shoot two official CMP matches. Click here for details. Be sure to bring a notarized CMP affidavit with you if you have not given us one already. CMP award pins will be given according to the 2009 CMP Cut scores. Participation in these matches will meet one of the requirements for purchasing rifles from the CMP.

September Match Report

What a great change for weather conditions. Temperature was great and although rain was predicted, we only had to walk through some wet grass from earlier sprinkles. The sky was overcast and it told on some of our older eyes. That rear sight is a little harder to get in focus in dimmer conditions. The scores kind of showed that. Scott shot a great score with his M1903A3 (aperture sight) and won the first match with a 281-5X to win the remainder of the Lake City 30-06 ammo. Thanks again to Joe Kester, a CCRPC member, for the donation. Scores are posted.

Welcome to Paul and Fran who shot with us for the first time. Thanks to everyone for helping out with setup and takedown. Thanks to Jay for having the range looking so good.

September Match Planning

We will fire our usual Vintage Military Double Header. Because we were partly rained out in August, we will still have the Lake City 30-06 ammo available for prizes.

August Match Report

Hey! I said a "LITTLE" wet we could stand. What we got was a mini-monsoon. After sweating through the first match, we watched a really dark sky approach rapidly. Along with the first shots of the second match came the first rain drops. Before we could finish the slow-fire, those of us out in the open were completely soaked. So, with the targets drenched, we scrubbed the second match.

Welcome to Dave Cochron and Miles McMillan shooting with us for the first time. Dave didn't get to shoot much as he was only planning to shoot the second match. Have a look at Jim's Hungarian 43M. Only 91,500 made. Check this website for more info. Scroll down about half-way to the 43M. Weapons of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.

August Match Planning

We will fire our usual Vintage Military Double Header. The weather forecast is cooler than we've had lately, but we may see some rain. With the covered firing points we can stand a little wet, so come on out.

July Match Report

It was another hot one. We ran a couple of fans to get some breeze. We collectively decided to go ahead and shoot the regular Double Header match as usual. Due to a computer glitch, I don't have the scores ready to post, but I'll get it done soon.

Welcome to Glenn Collins, hope you will come back again.

July Match Planning

Because of the heat, we will fire one 30 round Vintage Match followed by some novelty targets. As soon as we get it planned, I'll update everyone, so you'll know how to prepare. Stay tuned ....

June Match Report

It was a hot one for sure. Most shooters fired from under the cover in the shade. Yours truly shot my best score ever winning the first match. In the second match Scott fired his trapdoor Springfield, firing off his last rapid fire round in between "Cease" and "Fire." Next time he shoots a single shot, I'm going get video of the rapid fire string.

Thanks to everyone for braving the heat and coming out to shoot. Also thanks for help with setup and take-down. I really appreciate everyone pitching in.

CMP Games Report

Tom Powell and I went to shoot at the CMP Games this year at Camp Butner. Tom has been there a few times already and so I was the rookie. Tom brought me up to speed quickly though and I had a great time. I just wish I had brought more rifles. I fired my k31 in three matches, trying to shoot well enough to pick up a gold medal. Well, maybe next year. Tom shot his M1 and his M1 carbine and collected medals with both. I posted a link to the CMP Games Scores on the Calendar and Results page.

We watched the Rimfire Sporter rifle match and have decided that we will want to shoot that next year for sure. Rimfire Sporter is a fun match where everyday (well almost) .22 rifles are used with or without scopes to fire 6 targets: Slow Fire and Rapid Fire in 3 positions. The prone targets are at 50 yds and the Sitting and Standing targets are at 25 yds. The shooters were having a blast. The allowed equipment is kept fairly simple and the rifles have a 7.5 lb weight limit as well as a few other equalizing rules. Click here to check it out Rimfire Sporter match info on the CMP Website.

May Match Report

Another great day for a match. Summertime is fast approaching and we'll probably shoot from under the cover for a few matches to beat the heat. Congratulations to Scott who took first place in both matches. You may notice though that his lead isn't as great as it has been. Jim and I placed a pretty tight 2nd and 3rd in the first match.

Thanks, as always to everyone for helping with the matches.

New Pics Posted from April CMP Match. Check them out in the gallery.
Thanks to David Schneider for providing the pictures.

April Match Report

Another great day for a match. It got a little warm out in the sun, but there was a little breeze that felt great on the walk from the firing line to the targets and back. Congratulations to David and Scott who won the first and second matches, each picking up Silver Springfield CMP award pins. Bill came in second in each match, picking up Silver Vintage Military pins for each. Tom took third in both matches, earning two bronze M1 Garand award pins. Placing fourth, Jay collected a Bronze Springfield pin for the first match and David collected a Bronze Vintage Military pin for the second match.

Thanks everyone for pitching in and making the match fun for all.

April Match Planned

The April match will be a CMP double header. Two 300 pt matches following the CMP JC_Garand_course_A.
We will register the match with CMP for official records and shoot CMP rules.
Click here for the CMP Rules. NOTE: To participate in CMP matches we must have on file a notarized CMP affidavit. Click here for more information. If you have previously given us one of these affidavits, you don't need another. CMP award pins will be given to competitors according to the 2009 CMP cut scores. Click here for cut scores.

March Match Report

Spring has finally sprung. Weather was great. Started out a little foggy but burned off quickly. We all enjoyed shooting out in the open on the grass. Congratulations to Scott who took both matches. I'd have gotten him on the second match, but a big fat 0 on one shot of my standing score put that possibility to rest.

Thanks to Scott for the New PICS...Click Here ,
As always, thanks to everyone for helping with setup and takedown.

Welcome to Jason Brown, shooting with us for the first time.
Hope you enjoyed it and will come back next time.

March Match Planned

The March Match will be a VMBAR/VMSAR Double Header.I still have a supply of CMP 30-06 surplus ammo for sale to those who shoot the match. The price has gone up slightly, but I'm still selling it near my cost. New price will be 5.50 per box of 20 rounds, limit 4 boxes.

February Match Report

The covered firing line really saved this match. We had light rain and I wondered if we would have many shooters. But, rain or no rain, the shooters pulled in and we had a good match. Congratulations to Scott who took the first match with his M96 Swede with a 273-6X. Congratulations to Dave who fired a 99 in the slow fire prone stage with his 03A3 winning the second match with a 277-7X.

February Match Planned

The February Match will be a VMBAR/VMSAR Double Header.I've been traveling so I haven't been keeping up with normal communications, but the match is on. ALSO, I now have a supply of CMP 30-06 surplus ammo for sale to those who shoot the match. The price has gone up slightly, but I'm still selling it near my cost. New price will be 5.50 per box of 20 rounds, limit 4 boxes.

January Match Report

I had to miss this one. Thanks to Jim Popp for running the match. Weather was not great but 6 hardy souls made the match. Scores are posted. Congratulations to Wes for taking the first match with his Mosin Nagant M1891/30. That's what I love about VM shooting. It's not about how much a rifle costs, but how well you can shoot it. Congrats to Scott on the second match where he got his M1917 dialed in a little tighter. Thanks to all who came out to shoot and pitched in with setup and takedown.

January Match Planned

The January Match will be a VMBAR/VMSAR Double Header.I have put up the tentative 2009 schedule as a repeat of the 2008 schedule. If you want to see more CMP matches or have other suggestions please email me at vmshooters@ccrpc.net and we will consider all ideas.

December Match Report

The fog was fairly thick as we fired our sighters, but it cleared away before things got too serious and we had a great day to shoot. Thanks to all who came out to shoot and pitched in with setup and takedown.

"YOU Suck!" is a frequent, good natured ribbing several of us usually get from Jim when we edge him out by a point or two. Well today was payback as we all got to tell Jim how much he "sucked" as he put the hurt on all of us in the first match.

Congratulations to Jim and also to Scott who won the second match with a very nice M42B Ljungman.

Welcome to Glenn Collins and Mark Scott who shot the match with us this month.

December Match Planned

The December Match will be a VMBAR/VMSAR Double Header. I have a mystery donation from Cheaper Than Dirt to offer as a prize. So dig yourself out of the ribbons and bows and come out to shoot the matches with us!

November Match Report

Thanks to Jim Popp for running this match. I had to miss it for a work related trip. I heard that all went well so look for Jim again in the near future when once again I'm forced to choose between feeding my family and shooting a match. There was a really great showing of foreign military rifles at this match Out of the seven shooters there were 6 foreign countries represented. Check it out, results are posted. Congrats to Scott and David, the two match winners for November.

Welcome to Madison Garner who shot the match with us this month.

October CMP Match Report

Dodged the rain mostly and had a nice cool day for a match. Our CMP double header went off without a hitch. Congratulations to our CMP award pin winners: Scott McMillan collected an M1 Garand Gold pin and a Springfield Silver pin. Tom Powell picked up an M1 Garand Bronze pin. Joe Fescina earned a Springfield Bronze pin. Jim Popp earned a Springfield Bronze pin and a Vintage Military Bronze pin. Lastly, Bill Bowling brought home a Vintage Military Silver pin. Click Here for Scores.
I should get the score sheets sent in to CMP this week.

Welcome to new shooters Larry and Lin. We look forward to shooting with you again.

We have a few new pictures in the Gallery. Sorry, we didn't warn you it was going to be picture day!

New Rule added for VMBAR/VMSAR Matches.

September Match Report

Another great day for a match. A little glimpse of fall weather was enjoyed by all. Congratulations to Scott and Joe, our winners for today's matches. Both Scott and Joe shot their best scores of the year here for CCRPC matches. Several other shooters also posted their best or near best CCRPC scores today.

Welcome to Richard Ogden, hope you can make it back and shoot another match soon.

September Match Planned

The September Match will be a VMBAR/VMSAR Double Header.  I'm planning another CMP double header for October, comments welcome as always.

August Match Report

OK, so we apparently can't compete with the Greensboro Gunshow. Nevertheless, the match must go on! We had a beautiful day for a match. Having the target frames near the 200yd line really simplified setup, and shooting off the new concrete is a nice option. Tom Powell and I took the matches, but Jim Popp was hot on our heels.

Welcome to Wes Starling, one of Bary's friends. Hope you had fun and can make it next time.

August Match Planned

The August Match will be another VMBAR/VMSAR Double Header. I've been real busy lately and haven't had time to work up anything else. Besides, the double-header really is our favorite. We should have the target frame shed completed so that the frames will be stored near the 200yd line. This will simplify setup and takedown. We will also have the 100yd fixed frame removable so that the covered firing positions will be more usable. And, if I can get some time, I will have a new 100yd target frame ready for use by carbine shooters.

July Match Report

Congratulations to David Schneider and Randall Harris, winners of the two matches. What a nice change in the weather. While it was still warm, it wasn't sweltering. We also have the concrete finished under the roof, and now can shoot in the shade. This match , though it seems, was beset with gremlins. We had sights slipping down, bullets failing to feed from magazines, oversized rounds that wouldn't chamber, op-rods coming loose. Nevertheless, we had a good time, and that's what it is all about.

Welcome to new shooters Bary Winslow and Bryan Anderson. Hope you had fun and will come shoot with us again.

We had two interesting rifles this match. Jim Popp brought an Egyptian Hakim 8mm, and Scott McMillan brought another single shot. This time a Martini-Enfield, chambered in .303. Pics are below. As always, thanks to everyone for helping with setup and take-down.

Martini-Enfield Mk II

July Match Planned

The July Match will be a "Cool and Shady" VMBAR/VMSAR Double Header. We are working hard to reconfigure the range to allow us to shoot from under the cover. We may not get too many more really hot days this year, but we will likely see some more wet ones. Having the roof over the firing line will help with both. Plans have been made to pour concrete into the unpaved half of the covered area and to rearrange the target line to shift target frames to the left. We should be done with this work BEFORE the July match.

Thanks to Jay Ferguson and Rick Smith for acting quickly on this.

June Match Report

OK, this was a hot one! Everybody was feeling the heat. Not just the heat of competition either. Although, with our best prize offering yet, there was some of that too. I thought I had a good chance with my British .303. Then I found out I should have practiced offhand with it. I guess the British learned their lesson about standing up in the open to fight during our Revolutionary war. It seems their rifles don't like to shoot offhand. Obviously there was just a loose nut behind the trigger. Congratulations to Scott McMillan who took first prize, the Creedmoor Sports shooting mat. Joe and Moira Fescina showed us another of their rifles. Moira shot a MAS 49/56 like this one in the first match. One of these matches, she's going to find one she really likes and then "show and tell" will be a lot less interesting.

Scores are posted, Click Here for Results.

Welcome to new shooter Keith McCahan. We hope you had fun and will come shoot with us again.

Many thanks to all who pitched in with setup and takedown.
Thanks to Ed Jones for helping cut grass on the berms on short notice.

June Match Planned

The June Match will be another VMBAR/VMSAR Double Header. What can I say, they're our favorite matches. Creedmoor Sports has donated a shooting mat which we will award to the shooter with the highest score of the day. If you who do business with Creedmoor Sports, be sure to let them know we appreciate their donation. Those of you who don't, check out www.creedmoorsports.com for the best in high power shooting.

May Match Report

We managed to beat the rain and had a good match after all. We were moving benches to make room under the shelter when the rain let up. So some of us braved the weather and shot in the open while a few more cautious shooters stayed under the cover. The rain was light though and didn't soak anybody. Joe and Moira Fescina showed us an interesting rifle. Moira shot a Madsen like this one in the first match.

Scores are posted, Click Here for Results.

Welcome to new shooters Matt Bowling and John Masters. We hope you had fun and will come shoot with us again.
Many thanks to all who pitched in with setup and takedown.

May Match Planned

The May Match will be a VMBAR/VMSAR Double Header. The two match winners will each get a pair of binoculars from Graf and Sons. Those of you who do business with Graf and Sons, be sure to let them know we appreciate their donation. Those of you who don't, check out www.Grafs.com for a good source of reloading and shooting supplies.

April Match Report

The CMP double header went off without a hitch. We fired two JC Garand Course A 300 point matches. We did lose one shooter for the second match, and another had a reload snafu. But, we all got to do the CMP match with its shorter times etc, good practice for the Eastern CMP games at Camp Butner. CMP Award pins were won by the following shooters:

In the first match:

Scott McMillan 270-3X (M1 Silver)
Randall Harris 267-3X (M1 Bronze)
Tom Powell 257-3X (M1 Bronze)
Bill Bowling 256-3X (VM Bronze)

In the second match:

Randall Harris 272-5X (Springfield Silver)
Scott McMillan 270-2x (Springfield Silver)
Dave Schneider 263-1x (VM Bronze)

April Match Planned

The April match will be a CMP double header. Two 300 pt matches following the CMP JC_Garand_course_A.
We will register the match with CMP for official records and shoot CMP rules.
Click here for the CMP Rules. NOTE: To participate in CMP matches we must have on file a notarized CMP affidavit. Click here for more information. If you have previously given us one of these affidavits, you don't need another.
CMP award pins will be given to competitors according to the CMP cut scores. Click here for cut scores.
We are planning an informal CMP clinic for anyone who wants to get an introduction to CMP matches. I'll send out an email with date, time and other details. We'll cover the differences in the rules we normally use vs the CMP rules. We'll cover sling use, shooting positions and general competitive shooting topics.

March Match Report

What a great day for a match! We had almost a full firing line. Pretty soon we may have to take reservations. We shot the 500 pt course of fire. Scott McMillan took the $25.00 Midway USA prize. Congratulations to Scott. Jim Popp showed us another interesting rifle this month. Click here to check it out.

Welcome to new shooters Murray and David West. We hope you had fun and will come shoot with us again.
Many thanks to all who pitched in with setup and takedown.

March Match Planned

The March Match will be a 500 pt Vintage match. The match winner will get a $25.00 gift certificate from MidwayUSA. Those of you who do business with Midway, be sure to let them know we appreciate their donation. Those of you who don't, check out www.midwayusa.com for pretty much anything you need for shooting.

February Match Report

The Double Header match was even better the second time around. I think we're on to something! Scott McMillan took the first match with his M1 and declining the customary prize, passed it on to newcomer Randall Harris who was nipping pretty close at Scott's heels. Tom Powell took the second match, also with an M1. Tom's winning second match score was the high score of the day. Jim Popp and Scott McMillan had the most interesting rifles of the day. Jim proved that any shortcoming on the part of the French army wasn't due to the rifle's ability. Welcome to new shooters Pat Parker, Randall Harris, and Sam Richard. Thanks to all for pitching in, this job is easy because of the help.

February Match Planned

The "Double Header" was so much fun, it could be habit-forming. Some of our regular shooters missed out on the first one. Let's do it again. Two 30 round matches back to back. Get some ammo together and we'll see you in a couple of weeks!

January Match Report

The Double Header match was a great idea. Thanks to Dave Schneider for coming up with the idea and also for doing RSO duty for the second match. Dave also donated two Lee Perfect Powder measures for prizes. Take a look at the results page to see the interesting rifles that were on-hand this match. Scott took the first match with his trusty 03A3, then switched to a post civil-war single-shot rifle for an extra challenge (rapid fire included). Yours truly took the second match with the cheapest rifle I own. Cyle Richard joined us for the first time and fired the second match with the shortest barrel we've ever had in a match. Thanks to all for pitching in with the chores and to Ed for the extra help and the goodies.

January Match Planned

The January match looks like some extra fun. Can't make up your mind what you want to shoot? We have the answer. Thanks to a suggestion from one of our regular shooters, we are going to have a double header! Two 30 round matches back to back. It shouldn't take too much longer and ought to be a good time. Go to the Calendar and Results page and click on the match description for details.

December Match Report

The December Match was a fine day to make some noise! I was a little worried about the weather. Forecast was for rain on Friday and Sunday. How could we have a dry Saturday??? But, I learned my lesson and it paid off. Congrats to Scott McMillan who won the match. Better look over your shoulder Scott, we were hot on your heels. Results Posted.
We also had a hand of High Power Poker after the match. The target was printed with a full deck of cards. The ante was $3.00 and the game was 5 card stud. The winner took home 2/3 of the pot. Each player took 5 shots at the target. Scott eeked out the win with a pair of aces, jack high. Peter was close behind with a pair of aces and a 10 high.

November Match Report

The November Match was a great time. Started off a little chilly, you know frost on the pumpkin kind of weather. But, by the time the shootin' started, everyone was feelin' good. It was good to see almost everyone out for the match. Congrats to Scott McMillan who won the match. Results are posted.

November Match is Moved up to the 17th !!

This will be another Vintage Military Rifle Match. I may throw in some unorthodox targets, but they'll just be for fun.
Hope to see everyone there. Weather should be cooler...Bring a friend !

We still have CMP surplus 30-06 ammo available at $5.00 per box of 20. (Limit 4 per competitor per match)

October Match Cancelled

The weatherman threw us a curveball. Rain for several days in a row was forecast to continue right through our match. As with most things, plans don't always work out. The range was plenty wet since it rained overnight, but there was no more rain after daylight. Next time, we'll probably let the out-of-towners judge the weather reports, and we'll charge ahead anyway.

October Match is ON !!

August Match Cancelled

Well, I hated to do it, but my work schedule has me out of town on the 4th Saturday of August so I have to cancel the match. We will resume in September, so everyone practice well so we can have fun then.

July 28, 2007 Match Report

Another match in the record books. Ok, so it was a little Hot. Nevertheless, a good time was had by everyone. The 90 second rapid fire strings were a nice change as was being able to start in position. This may become standard for VMBAR/VMSAR. After the match we tossed around some ideas for future matches. One idea was a match consisting of three 20 round slow fire strings. Another was a 50 yd match for M1 carbines and 7.62x39 rifles (SKS and AK47 clones or ??) And, we are still planning something with shotguns and flying clay targets. If you like any of these ideas, or have some ideas to contribute, I want to know. Email me at vmshooters@ccrpc.net

Thanks to Rich Canfield for acting as RSO and to everyone else who helped with setup and takedown.

Welcome to new shooter Chris Woodson, not bad for shooting an unfamiliar rifle. Hope to see you next time.

We should have some pictures from this match soon.

July 28 Match Details now available.

This will be a 500 point (50 round+sighters) VMBAR/VMSAR match. Open the Calendar & Results link above and click on the Match Description for details. Due to requests made and creaking knees heard, we will allow shooters to begin rapid fire stages in position. We will also extend the rapid fire time to 90 seconds. These changes are for VMBAR/VMSAR matches only. If you want to keep up your regular timing, you may still start standing.

We will have CMP surplus 30-06 ammo available at $5.00 per box of 20. (Limit 4 per competitor per match)

June 23, 2007 Match Report

We had a great day for a match June 23. Weather was great! Several of our regular shooters were off shooting in a state match so we were missing a few. Our top two shooters received CMP award pins for their scores. Scott McMillan received a Silver Springfield award pin and Dave Schneider received a Silver Vintage Military award pin. We had a new shooter join our ranks. Tom Powell from Lumberton looks like he will definitely be a contender. Tom put up a pretty respectable score, especially considering he was shooting an unfamiliar rifle and having to use some serious Kentucky windage! We're still pondering a course of fire for the July match. After discussing the matter with several shooters, we are at least sure that it will be a VMBAR/VMSAR match for all vintage rifles. Check a little later for details. If you aren't getting email notices from us prior to the matches, take a minute and fill out our Information Form so we can keep you in the loop.
