CMP Match Differences
At Crosse Creek Rifle and Pistol Club we sponsor two types of
Vintage Military Rifle Matches;
CMP (Civilian Marksmanship
Program,) and VMBAR/VMSAR (Vintage Military Bolt Action Rifle/Vintage
Military Semi Automatic Rifle.)
Below are the practical differences between our typical
Vintage Military Rifle matches and an official CMP rifle match.
For complete CMP Games rules, see the CMP Games Rulebook. For
general information about the CMP, Click Here.
CMP requires that an "Eligibility
Affidavit and Liability
Agreement" be signed and notarized before shooters may participate.
This only needs to be done once for our CMP matches. If we have
received one from you previously, we do not need another. Click here for
the form.
For CMP Games Matches:
Allowed Rifles:
- As-issued M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, and Johnson Semi-Automatic
Rifles.
- As-issued regular infantry military bolt action rifles US and
foreign.
- Modern Military rifles are now allowed. See
the CMP Games Rulebook.
Allowed
Jackets:
- Hardback shooting coats are allowed but sling keepers if present
may not be used.
Slow Fire
Stages:
- In both prone and standing slow-fire positions rifles
(except M1
Carbines) must be loaded only one round at a time.
- M1 Carbine magazines may be loaded with up to 5
rounds. If so
loaded, the M1 carbine must be kept pointed downrange at all
times. When resting between shots in the standing position, the
carbine should be cradled in the shooter's arms pointing downrange.
Sling Use:
- In the standing position, slings must either be stretched
tightly
between front and rear sling swivels, or removed from the rifle.
- In all positions, M1 carbine slings must be attached at
both ends to
the swivels, or removed completely.
Rapid Fire
Stages:
- Rapid fire stages will begin with shooters
standing. Exceptions
are allowed for physically limited shooters. Shooters will assume
the shooting position when the "Targets Up" command is given.
- Rounds may not be chambered while changing from standing
to shooting
position. Bolt action rifles will have rounds inserted in the
magazine, but must have the bolts pulled completely to the rear.
Semi-Auto rifles must have their bolts closed on an empty chamber over-riding the first round in the magazine.
- Once in shooting position, (butt or one elbow on the
ground,)
bolt-action bolts may be closed and semi-auto bolts cycled to load the
first round.
- Rapid fire stages for mixed matches (bolt-action and
semi-auto) will be
80 seconds. M1 carbine rapid fire stage (when fired separately)
will be 60 seconds.
- The match director may permit shooters with physical
limitations to
begin rapid fire stages in shooting position. Shooters starting
in position will load their rifles the same as others but may not begin
firing until a shot is fired by a shooter moving from the standing to
shooting position.
Scoring:
- Score cards will be sent to CMP for official
recording. Care must
be taken to record scores clearly. Instructions for marking the
scorecards are on the back.
- Score cards must be signed by the shooter and witnessed
by another.
