Crosse Creek Rifle and Pistol Club

Vintage Military Rifle Bench Match

This match is intended for shooters who prefer not to shoot in the usual three position matches.  Additionally, it is intended for vintage military rifles that don't meet our as-issued to regular infantry troops concept.

We allow any of the VMBAR/VMSAR rifles fired in our vintage military matches. Click Here for rifle info.  But, rifles may have modified sights or may have optics similar to the CMP vintage military sniper matches.  See the CMP Rulebook tables 8 and 9.  For our non-CMP matches we will not be as strict regarding sight/rifle configurations.

If you enjoy shooting vintage military rifles, but have modified them to improve accuracy beyond what may have been typically seen on a battlefield, this is the match for you.  Match fees are the same as our regular matches and CMP matches.

Here are the specifics.  (Variations may be approved by the match director so long as the spirit of the match is maintained.)

Positions:  Shooting may be done from either bench or prone positions.

Rests:  Sand bags or similar rests may be used under the forestock only.  No rear bags or mechanical rests may be used.  The buttstock must be supported only by the shooter's shoulder.  Slings may be used.

Targets:  All targets will be placed at the 300yd target line.  Rifles fitted with as-issued sights will use SR targets and rifles with optics or modified sights will use C-3 targets.  One splatter target roughly the size of the aiming  black will be provided so that bullet strikes in the black may be easily seen through your spotting scope.  Bullet strikes outside the black are typically seen easily enough.  Additional splatter targets may be purchased if needed.

Course of fire:  Ten minute sighting period followed by three ten minute strings of ten rounds each.  Targets will be scored and pasted after each string.  Splatter targets will be lifted to score and paste the paper target.  The splatter targets will also have pasters so that shot groups for each string may be seen.

CMP Match:
The CMP vintage military bench match varies from above.  CMP VMR bench matches are fired at SR-3 targets and are only fired from bench positions.  See the CMP rulebook for more information.
